UFC 275: Result, review and breakdown
UFC 275 just finished few hours ago at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. UFC 275 proved to be an excellent card of this year; all the fight delivered and made this show very successful tonight. There were 6 finishes in 11 fights overall, main card end with 4 finishes in 5 fights. This event was a huge success; whole Singapore Indoor Stadium was sold out and generated the biggest gate in the history of this arena.
Result and Review:
Main Event: Jiri Prochazka beat Glover Teixeira (rear naked choke)
In the main event, Jiri Prochazka beat Glover Teixeira with 30 seconds left on the clock and became the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. This is an instant classic fight, both fighters went to the war and delivered the potential fight of the year. There were so many “wow moments” in this battle; fans were at the edge of their seats with the excitement.
This fight was back and forth action, Glover got hurt multiple times on feet, but he was able to take Jiri to the ground. Jiri showed his underrated grappling and he was able to reverse the position or stand up from the ground every single time. All rounds were very close, but Glover was ahead on judge’s card going into the 5th round. In 5th round; Jiri was more tired than Glover, so Glover was able to hurt Jiri badly on feet with his heavy hands and then went for guillotine which Jiri escaped. After that Glover take Jiri down once again and mounted him easily, it was looking that fight will go the distance and Glover will get win. But Jiri Prochazka didn’t give up and reversed the position, after that Jiri just attacked with the rear naked choke without any hooks and get the submission victory in last minute of the fight. The whole arena was screaming at the top of their lungs on this incredible comeback and shocking finish.
This will be marked as the new era in Light Heavyweight division, for the longest time Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier were on the top of this division but now Jiri Prochazka as Champion, this division will be revitalized.
Co-Main Event: Valentina Shevchenko beat Taila Santos (split decision)
In the Co-Main event, Valentina Shevchenko defends her flyweight title for the 7th time against Taila Santos in a very close and tough fight. Taila Santos brought fight to the champion and gave her the hardest fight of her career. Valentina lost first 2 rounds in two of the Judges card, because of Taila strong grappling skills. Taila was able to get the back of Valentina multiples and went for rear naked choke many times. Valentina was very composed in championship rounds she showed her experience and skills and able to finish strong and get the spilt decision victory in the fight. Taila Santos suffered a horrible injury on her right eye in 4th round after the clash of heads, which also might have affected her performance in last 2 rounds. This is a very competitive fight and Valentina had to work extremely hard to get this win, fans believe the both fighters will fight once again in rematch.
Weili Zhang knocked out Joanna Jedrzejczyk (spinning back fist)
Former UFC Strawweight champion Weili Zhang knocked out another former Strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk in their rematch. Both fighters went after each other in first round and exchanged a lot of big shorts, Weili were able to get few takedowns and Joanna stood up and throw a lot of kicks. In 2nd round, Joanna was finding her range and shots but Weili threw spinning back fist out of nowhere and knocked Joanna out.
Weili Zhang will most likely to challenge Carla Esparza for the Strawweight Championship at the end of this year. Joanna Jedrzejczyk retired from the sport and hanged his gloves, she is the legend of the sport and one of the greatest Strawweight champion.
Jake Matthews beat Andre Fialho (KO/TKO)
Jake Matthews knocked out Andre Fialho in the 2nd round and get back to winning column. Andre Fialho was on 2 fights winning streak and was favorite in this fight, but Jake Matthews finished him and he looked better than ever in this fight.
Jack Della Maddalena beat Ramazan Emeev (KO/TKO)
Jack Della Maddalena knocked out Ramazan Emeev in the very first round. He is the most highly touted prospect coming from Australia; he has elite boxing skills and solid takedown defense. Ramazan took him down but Jack sprawl and get back to his feet and hurt Emeev with this heavy hands.
